À Saint-Malo, nous avons encore été malchanceux sur le plan météorologique. Si au Mont Saint-Michel il n'a plu qu'une demi-journée, ici ces demi-journées ont eu lieu pendant l'excursion. La ville de Saint-Malo est très pittoresque et possède une histoire intéressante. Elle est apparue au début du VIe siècle, lorsque les Britanniques, sous la pression des Angles et des Saxons, ont commencé à s'installer sur la rive sud de la Manche. La colonie a été nommée en l'honneur de Saint Malo, un évêque celte, l'un des sept saints fondateurs de la Bretagne, et s'est rapidement développée pour devenir une grande ville portuaire.

De nombreux navigateurs et scientifiques, architectes et peintres, acteurs et sportifs, poètes et écrivains célèbres y sont nés. En particulier, le célèbre écrivain François René de Chateaubriand est né et enterré à Saint-Malo.

Lorsque les Alliés débarquèrent sur le continent européen en 1944, la vieille ville fut pratiquement rayée de la surface de la terre. Aujourd'hui, les touristes admirent la reconstruction de 1948-1960.

In Saint-Malo we were again unlucky with the weather. If in Mont-Saint-Michel it rained only half a day, then here these half days were just for the time of the excursion. The town of Saint-Malo is very picturesque and has an interesting history. It appeared in the beginning of VI century when Brits under pressure of Angles and Saxons began to move to the southern shore of the English Channel. The settlement was named in honor of Saint Malo - Celtic bishop, one of the seven holy founders of Brittany and quickly grew into a major port city.

Many famous navigators and scientists, architects and painters, actors and athletes, poets and writers were born here. In particular, the famous writer François René de Chateaubriand was born and buried in Saint-Malo.

When the Allies landed on the territory of mainland Europe in 1944, the old town was practically wiped off the face of the earth, so today tourists admire the reconstruction of 1948-1960.

В Сен-Мало с погодой нам опять не повезло. Если в Мон-Сен-Мишель дождь шел только полдня, то здесь эти полдня как раз и пришлись на время экскурсии. Город Сен-Мало очень живописный и имеет интересную историю. Он возник в начале VI века, когда бритты под давлением англов и саксов стали переселяться на южный берег Ла-Манша. Поселение было названо в честь святого Мало - кельтского епископа, одного из семи святых основателей Бретани и быстро разрослось в крупный портовый город.

Здесь родились родом многие известные мореплаватели и ученые, архитекторы и живописцы, актеры и спортсмены, поэты и писатели. В частности, в Сен-Мало родился и похоронен знаменитый писатель Франсуа Рене де Шатобриан.

При высадке союзников в 1944 году на территорию материковой Европы старый город был практически стёрт с лица земли, так что сегодня туристы любуются реконструкцией 1948—1960 гг.
