Les ruines du château de Derval, autrefois l'un des châteaux les plus fortifiés de Bretagne, sont conservées dans la forêt près de la commune de Derval et sont aujourd'hui classées monument historique en France.

Entre le XIIe et le XIVe siècle, le château appartenait à l'ancienne famille de Rougé. En 1356, le seigneur Bonabes de Rougé et de Derval s'allie au roi de France, Jean le Bon, et est capturé avec lui par le Prince Noir. Le seigneur de Derval, vaincu, est dépouillé de ses biens par le traité de Guérande, et le duc de Bretagne, Jean de Montfort, donne le château de Derval à son allié et ami Robert Knolles, l'un des grands capitaines de la guerre de Succession de Bretagne et du début de la guerre de Cent Ans. Knolles fait du château une véritable forteresse, mais en 1380, il doit le rendre à Jean de Rougé. Le château et la baronnie changèrent de mains jusqu'à ce qu'en 1593, il soit assiégé et pris pour la dernière fois par les troupes d'Henri IV, qui ordonna la démolition de toutes les fortifications, dont on ne voit plus aujourd'hui que les ruines du donjon, aujourd'hui connu sous le nom de Tour Saint-Clair. Le site a servi de carrière jusqu'au 20e siècle, il n'en reste donc pas grand-chose. Les vestiges de l'ancienne forteresse sont entourés d'une série de fossés, en partie remplis d'eau, et de structures de défense en terrasses. La végétation sauvage domine aujourd'hui la zone, de sorte que la vue des ruines du château ressemble à une illustration tirée d'un livre fantastique.

The ruins of the Château de Derval, once one of Brittany's most fortified castles, are preserved in the forest near the commune of Derval and are now classified as a historic monument in France.

Between the 12th and 14th centuries, the château belonged to the ancient de Rougé family. In 1356, Lord Bonabes de Rougé and de Derval allied himself with King Jean le Bon of France, and was captured with him by the Black Prince. The defeated lord of Derval was stripped of his possessions by the Treaty of Guérande, and the Duke of Brittany, Jean de Montfort, gave Derval castle to his ally and friend Robert Knolles, one of the great captains of the War of the Breton Succession and the early Hundred Years War. Knolles turned the castle into a veritable fortress, but in 1380, he had to hand it back to Jean de Rougé. The castle and barony changed hands until, in 1593, it was besieged and taken for the last time by the troops of Henri IV, who ordered the demolition of all the fortifications, of which all that remains today are the ruins of the keep, now known as the Tour Saint-Clair. The site was used as a quarry until the 20th century, so not much remains. The remains of the ancient fortress are surrounded by a series of ditches, partly filled with water, and terraced defensive structures. Wild vegetation now dominates the area, so that the view of the castle ruins resembles an illustration from a fantasy book.

Ноллес превратил замок в настоящую крепость, но в 1380 году ему пришлось вернуть замок Жану де Руже.
