Pornichet est devenue une commune en 1900 entre les territoires de Saint-Nazaire et de La Baule-Escoublac. Elle compte alors environ 500 villas, 10 hôtels et un casino. Sarah Bernhardt y venait souvent rendre visite à ses amis et se rendait régulièrement au casino. Après la Première Guerre mondiale, Pornichet s'est positionné comme un lieu de villégiature pour les enfants, se distinguant ainsi de la Baule voisine, plus à la mode. De nombreuses villas anciennes ont été préservées ici et sont bien intégrées entre les bâtiments modernes.
