Francfort-sur-le-Main, ou plus simplement Francfort, est la plus grande ville de l'État fédéral de Hesse et en même temps le centre de la région Rhin-Main, la deuxième plus grande de la République fédérale d'Allemagne. Autrefois, elle était le site d'un passage (furt en allemand) sur le Main. La région était habitée par les Francs, d'où le nom de la ville, qui se traduit par « le passage des Francs sur le Main ».

Aujourd'hui, la ville est le plus grand centre économique d'Europe. Un Francfortois sur cinq travaille dans le secteur bancaire ou financier. Plus de trois cents banques et sociétés de courtage influentes y sont installées, dont les deux banques les plus puissantes, la Banque fédérale d'Allemagne et la Banque centrale européenne. Le gratte-ciel le plus haut et le plus moderne d'Europe (il n'est d'ailleurs pas le seul, loin de là, puisqu'il y en a onze dans la ville) est posé dans les nuages, entouré de petites maisons médiévales, ce qui crée un entrelacement à la fois étonnant et harmonieux de différentes époques. La place Römer, dans le centre de la ville, abrite de nombreux monuments anciens.

Frankfurt am Main or simply Frankfurt is the largest city in the federal state of Hesse and at the same time the center of the Rhine-Main region, the second largest in the Federal Republic of Germany. In the olden days, it was the site of a crossing (furt in German) across the Main River. The area was then inhabited by the Franks, which led to the name of the city, which translates as “the crossing of the Franks on the river Main”.

Today it is the largest economic center of Europe. Every fifth Frankfurter works in the banking or financial industry. More than three hundred banks and influential brokerage firms are located here, including the two most powerful banks - the Federal Bank of Germany and the European Central Bank. The tallest and most modern skyscraper in Europe (by the way, it is far from being the only one - there are 11 of them in the city) is propped up in the clouds here, surrounded by small medieval houses, which creates an amazing and at the same time harmonious interweaving of different eras. And on Römer Square in the city center there are many monuments of antiquity.

Франкфурт-на-Майне или просто Франкфурт - крупнейший город федеральной земли Гессен и одновременно центр региона Рейн-Майн – второго по величине в ФРГ. В стародавние времена на его месте находилась переправа (по-немецки «furt») через реку Майн. Населяли тогда эту местность франки, что и обусловило название города, которое переводится как «переправа франков на реке Майн».

Нынче это крупнейший экономический центр Европы. Каждый пятый франкфуртец работает в банковской или финансовой отрасли. Здесь расположено более трехсот банков и влиятельных брокерских контор, в т.ч. два самых могущественных банка — Федеральный Банк Германии и Европейский Центральный банк. Здесь же подпирает облака самый высокий и современный небоскреб в Европе (кстати, далеко не единственный – всего их в городе 11), а окружают его небольшие средневековые домики, что создает удивительное и в то же время гармоничное переплетение разных эпох. А на площади Рёмер в центре города много памятников старины.
