Angers est la principale ville de la région historique de l'Anjou, ancienne capitale du duché d'Anjou. Situé au bord de la Maine, juste au-dessus de son confluent avec la Loire. Dans les temps anciens, vivait ici la tribu celtique andine, qui fut chassée par les Romains et fonda la ville d'Iuliomagus en l'honneur de Jules César. Au IIe siècle après JC. environ 3 000 personnes y vivaient. Au Ve siècle la ville fut nommée Anjou en l'honneur des Celtes qui la fondèrent. Quelques siècles plus tard, la région devient un comté puis un duché. C'est de là qu'est née la dynastie des Plantagenêt, qui a régné sur l'Angleterre pendant plusieurs siècles. Et bien d’autres choses ont fait de cette ville l’une des plus significatives du royaume de France.
