La partie inférieure de l'île est occupée par des quartiers résidentiels. La construction de solides défenses autour de l'abbaye a commencé en 1311. À la même époque, le faubourg situé au pied de la montagne reçoit une muraille. Cependant, en 1204, les Bretons incendient le bourg et une partie des bâtiments conventuels. L'agglomération actuelle, située sur le versant sud, ne peut être datée que de la première moitié du XIIIe siècle. Pendant la guerre de Cent Ans, les premiers bastions ont été construits et ont résisté avec succès aux attaques des Anglais. Le village actuel s'étend de part et d'autre de l'unique route qui monte à l'abbaye, sur le versant sud-est de la montagne, et se présente comme une succession ininterrompue de boutiques et de restaurants. Il ne compte qu'une trentaine de résidents permanents.

The lower tier of the island is occupied by residential neighborhoods. The construction of solid defensive structures around the abbey began in 1311. At the same time received the wall and the suburb at the foot of the mountain. However, in 1204 the Bretons burned the settlement and part of the monastery buildings. The present settlement, located on the southern slope, can be dated no earlier than the first half of the XIII century. During the Hundred Years' War, the first bastions were built, which successfully resisted English attacks. The modern village lies on either side of the only road up the south-eastern slope of the mountain to the abbey and is a continuous succession of stores and restaurants. The permanent inhabitants of the island are now only about 30 people.

Правда, в 1204 году бретонцы сожгли поселение и часть монастырских строений. Нынешнее поселение, находящееся на южном склоне, может быть датировано не ранее, чем первой половиной XIII века. В период Столетней войны  были построены первые бастионы, успешно противостоявшие нападениям англичан. Современный посад расположился по обе стороны от единственной дороги, поднимающейся к аббатству по юго-восточному склону горы и представляет собой сплошную череду магазинов и ресторанов. Постоянных жителей острова сейчас всего около 30 человек.
