La cathédrale catholique Saint-Maurice a été construite en 1032 - 1523 sur ordre des évêques Normand de Doy et Guillaume de Beaumont, à l'emplacement d'un bâtiment incendié de l'ancienne église. En plus de sa valeur historique, la cathédrale Saint-Maurice est également connue pour ses caractéristiques architecturales. En particulier, le vitrail de l'édifice est considéré comme l'un des chefs-d'œuvre de l'artisanat verrier français du XIIIe siècle. Aujourd'hui, la cathédrale est le centre du diocèse d'Angers et l'un des monuments nationaux de France. Et au Moyen Âge, la cathédrale Saint-Maurice, avec la cathédrale d'Amiens, revendiquait l'une des reliques chrétiennes les plus vénérées : la tête de Jean-Baptiste.
